I often slightly knock the edge off the freshly planed and sanded fret slot to help the new frets sit in tight. Frets aren’t as right angled on their inner edges as much as you might expect in some cases. Slightly bevelling the fret slot helps them sit better if there’s a small radius on the inner corner where the tang meets the body of the fret.
